Spicing up the weekend

Sam's Spot

It's been a while since I took the time to update this. I have some good pictures of Boston's Pumpkin Festival. They were going for the World Record of the most jack-o-latern lit at the same time. They were trying VERY hard to get 30,000 pumpkins carved and lit all at the same time. I would like to tell you that I did my share, but it was COLD out there and I wasn't digging my hands into freezing cold pumpkin goop in the cold. I did donate enough money to the cause to alleviate my feelings of guilt.

This weekend was working itself up to be another quiet weekend with nothing to report, but this morning, I woke up and decided that it was a good day to spend in Washington, D.C. I was going to fly down in the evening to be here in time for an early morning meeting, but I thought, "what the heck, Samantha needs some fun". I jumped out of bed at 6 a.m., ran around my house doing all the things I had planned on doing, threw some things in my suitcase and headed out the door. I arrived at the airport, and they got me on a 10:45 a.m. flight out.

I decided to head out to Mount Vernon, the home to President & Mrs. George Washington. It was actually a perfect fall day, and I was in the mood to trek all over the place. It really is an amazing property, I can see why the Washington's loved it so much. They had just opened up this really cool museum a couple weeks ago, that has some really great displays. They have even done this project to re-create what Washington would have looked like at 19 years old, 45 years old, and 67 years old. The re-creations are so real looking that they are actually kind of spooky. Just for the record, he wasn't a bad looking guy when he was younger. If you ever have a chance to get out there, I would definitely recommend the trip.

One of the best parts of the day was that I wound up hanging out with this really cute naval officer who happened to be in town on business and had come out to play tourist too. We bought our tickets at the same time and wound up at the same displays several times, and he came over and talking to me and then we just hung out. Then I asked about his job, and man, that was a mistake. He was a nuclear engineer, and had no idea what the appropriate level of detail about one's job really is. After a while, I just couldn't take anymore and ducked out. This is probably why I'm 35 and still single...my tolerance for boring men is way too low. :) Anyway, a great day overall.

Sam, I keep telling you that if the guy is cute...and in uniform...just let him pay! Sounds like you had a good time anyways! I can't wait until you are here to visit!
